Spaying and Neutering
Is it really necessary?
Should I spay my bunny?
There is many reasons to consider getting your baby bunny spayed/neutered when they are old enough.

We want both you and your bunny to enjoy a happy life together.
We strongly recommend having your bunny spayed.

Bunnies that are sold as pets are never to be bred.
This is stated in our policy.
Improve Litter Box Habits
Spaying bunnies makes litter training easier because they are less inclined to engage in territorial marking behaviors, where they use their feces and urine to mark their territory.
Prevent False Pregnancies
Spaying your female rabbit eliminates the risk of false pregnancies, which can cause stress and health issues.
Lower Health Risks
Spaying your female rabbit can prevent the development of uterine adenocarcinoma, a common and often fatal cancer in unspayed female rabbits.
Minimize Aggression
Spaying your rabbit can reduce aggression and territorial behavior, making them more calm and friendly.
Eliminate Urine Marking
Spaying your male rabbit eliminates the need to mark territory with urine, reducing the risk of accidents and messes.
(Females can also spray, although it's less common)
Improved Bonding
Spayed rabbits can form stronger bonds with their owners, as they are less likely to exhibit hormonal behaviors that can create distance.
This also enables to get another bunny friend (if they are both spayed and bonded properly!)
Reduce Stress
Spaying your rabbit can reduce stress and anxiety caused by hormonal fluctuations and unwanted breeding behaviors.
Decrease Destructive Behavior
Spaying can reduce destructive behavior such as chewing, and digging as the rabbit’s hormones are no longer driving these behaviors.
Increases Lifespan
Altered rabbits are generally healthier and live longer than unaltered rabbits.
Surgery certainly comes with risks, but if you find an experienced rabbit-savvy vet and request pain medicine for when bunny comes home from surgery, the procedure is generally favorable and well worth the risks.
Be prepared to spend $200-400 for the surgery and professional care, but the reward will be having a more lovable pet that is able to spend an abundance of time with you and your family.
Spaying or neutering a rabbit is usually performed when the bunny is at least 5 to 6 months of age (or order if you can stand the hormonal behaviors that may be occurring)!
